Rajkot: Six students were injured after a chunk of their classroom's ceiling fell on them, at a govt primary school in Una taluka of Gir Somnath district on Thursday.
The collapse occurred at the school in Vansoj village, with students from Classes 4 and 5 suffering the most severe injuries, to their heads.
The principal of Vansoj primary school, Arvind Solanki said, "The students had gathered for the prayer in the afternoon when the collapse occurred. Two students needed stitches, while the others suffered minor injuries. MRIs and other medical tests were done and the students were discharged from a hospital in Una."
Vansoj village is about 15km from Una town. The structure in question is run down and is undergoing renovation. As work is underway on an adjacent building, classes wer being conducted in the room in question.
Mohan Vaja, the husband of village sarpanch Ganga Vaja, said, " Classes won't take place in this building from tomorrow."
