Police station attack: MLA Sait asks cops not to trouble innocent people
Mysuru: KPCC working president and Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait on Thursday asked Mysuru City police not to trouble innocent people in the name of probing the attack on Udayagiri police station.
The MLA stated that he formed a team of advocates to assist families of members detained by city police allegedly without any evidence. A few families approached him, claiming their children were innocent and were detained by police. To assist such families, he formed a team. The MLA, however, clarified he would not intervene in the investigation of the case.
Udayagiri police station is located in the Narasimharaja assembly segment.
Sait also claimed that city police acted late against a man who posted a derogatory message on social media, leading to the violence. Sait clarified that the incident of gathering happened not because of defaming any political party leader, but for hurting their religious sentiments.
Police arrested the person who posted the image, but should also investigate who created the image and where it was created. When a complaint was brought to the station at 10.30am, an FIR wasn't registered until 5.30pm, Sait stated.
Sait also highlighted the requirement for the creation of another police station and said he would apprise the situation to home minister G Parameshwara, during his visit to police station.
15 held over unrest
Mysuru City police arrested 15 youths, including a few with criminal histories, in connection with the incident of stone pelting and unlawful assembly at Udayagiri police station. Police have cordoned off several areas near the station.
Mysuru district minister HC Mahadevappa visited the station and interacted with police officers, including police commissioner Seema Latkar, deputy commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy, and others. He appreciated the city police for their timely action in controlling the situation.
Mahadevappa also mentioned that no innocent person would be troubled during the investigation, but everyone should cooperate with police in the probe.
City Crime Branch police are investigating the case.
