Ahmedabad: The joy of attending a family wedding in Ahmedabad turned sour for a Surat businessman and his wife. Gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 70 lakh was stolen during their stay at the wedding venue in the Shela area between Feb 2 and 5. On Tuesday, Mohan Agarwal, the textile businessman filed a complaint with Bopal police stating that he and his family had travelled to Ahmedabad from Surat on Feb 2 for the wedding.
They were allocated a room at the venue in Shela. His wife had brought a significant amount of jewellery for the occasion, including multiple gold and diamond sets, bangles and other valuables, which, he said, were carefully stored in a trolley bag secured with a number lock.
On Feb 5, after attending wedding ceremonies, the family packed their belongings and departed for Surat via train. The next morning while unpacking. The wife found that the jewellery boxes inside the trolley bag were missing.
The stolen items include a seven tola gold set, an 11 tola navratna gold set, diamond bangles and other ornaments. Despite informing family members and checking thoroughly, they were unable to recover the missing valuables, stated the FIR.
Agarwal approached Bopal police station and filed a formal complaint. Bopal police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the venue and other possible locations to identify the culprits.
