30 tourists injured in accident near Almatti Dam
Vijayapura: As many as 30 tourists were injured in a road crash at the Karnataka State Industry Security Force (KSISF) police camp between Almatti Dam and Seetammana Gudda in Bagalkot district on Monday evening.
The mishap occurred when the tempo traveller the tourists were travelling in collided with a tractor loaded with sugarcane. Injured tourists said they were returning after visiting Lava Kusha Garden when their driver lost control and rammed a tractor coming from the opposite direction. KSISF personnel said that all 30 tourists were injured, and the condition of 10 is critical.
Over 20 personnel, headed by inspector Shivaling Karennavar, immediately got into action to remove the injured persons stuck in the tempo. They also provided first aid at their camp and sent the injured persons to the community health centre (CHC) in Nidagundi. They arranged a crane to lift the tempo, which had toppled after colliding with the tractor.
Dr Satish Kumar of CHC Nidagundi said that Saraswati Mallappa Doddamani, 35, Hanamavva Devendrappa Walikar, 50, Goutam Walikar, 10, and Bhagamma Walikar, 17, were critically injured and were referred to the district hospital in Vijayapura. "Among the other injured persons, six sustained fractures, and others sustained minor injuries," he said.
About 30 people from Jainapur and Kiridalli villages of Shorapur taluk in Yadgir district went to Savadatti Yellamma Temple. While returning, they visited Almatti Dam.
