The NTA score is not the same as percentage of marks obtained but normalised scores

Hyderabad: Bani Brata Majee from Telangana was among the 14 candidates nationwide who scored a ton in the JEE Main Session 1 (BE/BTech) results announced on Tuesday.

Sai Manogna Guthikonda from Andhra Pradesh secured 100 NTA score and was the overall topper among female candidates nationwide.

Most of the toppers were from Rajasthan, according to the National Testing Agency (NTA). Twelve out of the 14 top scorers are from general category and one each from OBC and SC categories.

The NTA score is not the same as percentage of marks obtained but normalised scores.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, topper Majee expressed his happiness, and the score did not come as a surprise. “After the exam, I expected to score above 290, but after checking the answer key, I realised I might get 300/300,” he said

“I am very happy, my parents, faculty and classmates are also very happy and congratulated me for my score,” he said.

On how he prepared for the exam, Majee said: “I studied for 12 to 14 hours daily. In the final months, I did not touch new topics but focused on revision for four hours daily, and practiced problems and attended regular mock tests.”

There were times when his mock test scores were low, but he stayed motivated, he said. “In the exam, I started with Physics, then Chemistry and used the remaining time for Mathematics.” He is now focusing on JEE Advanced.

Another student, Pranav Chaurasia, who scored 99.9 percentile, said: “I was quite happy and everyone congratulated me and motivated me to do better in future also.”

In the last month before exam he took multiple mock tests and followed NCERT books. “My study schedule varied from day to day,” he said and added that guidance of his teachers helped him a lot. He also revealed a key initiative: “I started meditating and exercise to calm my mind,” Chaurasia said. Chemistry was his biggest challenge, and he dedicated extra time to the subject.

The second session is scheduled in April. Based on the results of JEE Mains Paper 1 and paper 2, candidates will be short listed to appear for the JEE Advanced, , which is a one-stop exam to get admission into the 23 premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

More than 12.58 lakh candidates had appeared for the first edition of the crucial exam.

Among the candidates who secured an NTA score of 100, five were from Rajasthan, two each from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and one each from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Telangana and Maharashtra.

According to NTA officials,

NTA scores are normalised scores across multi-session papers and are based on the relative performance of all those who appeared for the examination in one session, a senior official explained.

The marks obtained are converted into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session of examinees, the official added.

The examination was held in 13 languages including Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

The exam was also conducted in 15 cities outside India including Manama, Doha, Dubai, Kathmandu, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah, Singapore, Kuwait City, Kuala Lumpur, Abu Dhabi, West Java, Washington, Lagos and Munich.

After both sessions of JEE (Main)-2025 Examination, the ranks of the candidates will be released taking into consideration the best of the two NTA scores in accordance with the policy already made.
