3 held for cyber fraud leading to victim’s suicide
Pratapgarh: Three cyber fraudsters, who were allegedly responsible for the suicide of a Pratapgarh-based youth in Jan this year, were arrested by a joint team of Fatanpur and the surveillance team of Pratapgarh police on Monday. The accused, identified as Rohit Prajapati (20), Amit Singh Chauhan (20), and Veer Pratap Singh (33), all residents of Kanpur had duped victims of lakhs of rupees through digital fraud after posing them as officials of the crime branch.
Police said the cyber fraudsters were involved in cheating money from gullible victims by threatening to get FIRs lodged against them. Police further added that a youth named Gyandas committed suicide on Jan 30 after being fed up with the cyber fraudsters' pressure and economic crisis, as they duped him of several lakhs through digital fraud.
Following the incident, the brother of the deceased lodged an FIR with Fatanpur police against unknown persons under various sections of BNS. During the investigation, police discovered the cyber fraud racketeers operating from Kanpur and managed to nab four of its key members, including a minor. Police also seized Rs 16,030 in cash, six mobiles, five pad mobile phones, seven SIM cards, two fake police IDs, one police cap and other valuables from their possession.
