Session on climate change impact on education and health held

Published - February 11, 2025 07:28 pm IST - MYSURU

Yi Mysuru, in collaboration with Daksha College and SVYM, Mysuru, organised a session titled “Climate change impact on education and health” at Daksha Degree College here. The session witnessed participation from around 120 students, engaging them in discussions on one of the most pressing global challenges of our times.

The keynote address was delivered by Seetharam, co-founder, SVYM, who led an engaging and interactive discussion on the far-reaching effects of climate change. He highlighted the devastating impact of climate change on daily life and its consequences for future generations.

Dr. Seetharam emphasised how shifting pre-monsoon rain patterns are affecting farmers, and how the changing pollution cycle poses significant health hazards. He further explained the adverse effects of pesticides on the food chain, endangering species.

In his address, Dr. Seetharam called for an approach beyond the conventional “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” model. Instead, he urged the audience to “Refuse and Respond,” advocating for mindful consumption and responsible decision-making to mitigate the impact of climate change effectively.

The session concluded with the Yi anthem, igniting a sense of responsibility among students to take small yet meaningful actions toward a sustainable future. A press release said that Yi Mysuru has been leading the charge in empowering youth to become change-makers for a sustainable future. Gagan Ranka, Chair, Yi Mysuru; Maria Andrews, Chair – Climate Change Vertical; Gautham Raju, Co-Chair, Yuva Vertical, Yi Mysuru, were present.
