City ‘Casanova’ Goon Paraded in Public After Fresh Rape Charges By Dubai Woman
Nagpur: City's notorious casanova goon, Roshan Shaikh, 37, who allegedly befriended several married women only to blackmail them later with their nude pictures and explicit videos, is now facing a fresh rape charge from a 29-year-old woman in Dubai. The woman claimed Shaikh repeatedly had sex with her at different hotels for a year and videographed her in compromising positions on the pretext of marriage. Shaikh, on Monday, was paraded in his neighbourhood by police who took him to his residence in full public view.
Arrested two days ago after the case was registered at Sadar police station, Shaikh is now in custody and his cell phone has been seized. With 11 offences against him, Shaikh was acquitted of MCOCA charges last year. With his past relationships under scrutiny, police suspect Shaikh may have more mobile phones concealed at his house or other places with evidence of his misdeeds with the women, especially married ones. In the past, he also had a rape case registered against him in Mumbai.
Sadar police team, heading for an investigation at his Friends Colony residence, was stranded for a while after their vehicle developed a snag, compelling them to walk 250m with the accused in full public view on Monday.
Shaikh's most-recent target, the Dubai-based woman, would frequently come to Nagpur. She claimed to have been defamed by Shaikh after he showed her explicit images to friends and acquaintances.
In the FIR, the survivor stated she came to know about Shaikh's image as a blackmailer who would extort money from married women after intimate relationships. The Dubai woman was introduced to Shaikh through a common friend last year. On August 4 last year, they went to a hotel on Nelson Square, where Shaikh forced himself upon her, promising to marry her. After an intimate session at a hotel in Wadi, Shaikh expressed his inability to marry her due to differences in their community and this left her enraged. The survivor stated she repeatedly tried to sever her ties with Shaikh, but each time he would return, tendering an apology.
Zonal DCP Rahul Madne appealed to all victims to come forward and expose Shaikh. "We seized another mobile phone, but police are searching for more electronic evidence against Shaikh," he said.
Sources stated Shaikh's video clips of assault on an army man and brandishing a weapon while driving a car brought him under police scanner. It's learnt Shaikh is fluent in English and would regularly visit pubs, resto-lounges, and such places where he would befriend girls and women.
