South Central Railway (SCR) is running a total number of 140 trains which are originating/terminating over the zone. In addition, 39 trains are passing through from various places across the zone for the ongoing ‘Maha Kumbh 2025’.
Advance reservations in these special trains have been utilised fully and the trains are running with average of 149% occupancy. As on Monday (February 10), around 1.3 lakh passengers availed the reserved accommodation and travelled by special trains, said an official release. Till date, total 179 trains have been planned to be operated from January to March. Almost all trains are planned via Prayagraj Chheoki or Prayagraj or Varanasi. Some of the important destinations are – Gaya, Patna, Azamgarh, Banaras, Gomatinagar (Lucknow), Danapur, Raxaul.
The special trains that are being operated originate from various stations like Secunderabad, Charlapalli, Moula-Ali, Guntur, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Narsapur, Nanded, Aurangabad, Tirupati, Bidar, Vikarabad, Machilipatnam etc. There are also plans to run four more special trains if need be.
General Manager Arun Kumar Jain stated that rush of pilgrim passengers is being monitored from the war rooms set up at Rail Bhavan, New Delhi apart from zonal headquarters of North Central Railway and divisional headquarters at Prayagraj and Lucknow by senior railway officials.
Trains are, in fact, being run towards Prayagraj from all directions of the country with a plan to operate over 13,000 trains, including over 3,100 special trains and 10,000 regular trains. For ‘Mauni Amavasya’, Prayagraj division has operated over 150 special trains on this day, setting a new record. Color-coded tickets and additional shelter areas have been introduced to ensure smooth boarding and deboarding processes, added the release.
