Hyderabad: Southern states will be penalised for successfully implementing family planning, Telangana chief minister A
Revanth Reddy said on Sunday. Calling on all southern states to unite to protect their constitutional rights against the BJP govt at the Centre pushing its various agendas including ‘one nation, one election' (ONOE).
"The secret agenda behind ONOE, being pushed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is to have one party and one person rule," Revanth said at a conference organised by a local daily in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.
The chief minister said the delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies was also a contentious issue since the southern states were implementing family planning successfully and developing faster compared to northern states. He hoped all the southern states would join hands to safeguard the guarantees provided by the Constitution. Revanth said he was ready to take the lead, if necessary, on behalf of southern states to question the Centre on the injustice being meted out to them.
Answering questions at the conference, he said if the population was the basis for delimitation, PM Modi should increase the existing seats by 50% as the most populated states UP, Bihar, MP and Rajasthan benefit by getting more seats.
To another query about unity among opposition leaders and the INDIA bloc, the CM said as there was no unity among the opposition parties and BJP was benefiting, citing examples of Haryana and Delhi where both AAP and Congress fought separately.
He also said that Congress did not disrespect or ignore the services of former PM PV Narasimha Rao.
"Telangana has been witnessing all-round development. My question is why Telangana is not getting support from the Centre when it i achieving many milestones. If Telangana becomes a one-trillion dollar economy, is it not beneficial for India's growth? The Centre is not supporting non-BJP-ruled states, especially southern states," Revanth said.
On Telangana's development, the CM said Telangana Rising was not just a slogan, it was the dream of the people of Telangana. He hoped that Telangana would emerge as the best state not only in the country but also as a model in the world in the near future. The CM said now Telangana's GSDP was about $200 billion, which was expected to reach one trillion dollars by 2035.
The CM explained the steps being taken by the govt to make Hyderabad a global city that would compete with major cities in the world such as New York, London, Singapore, and Tokyo.
Detailing the state's growth, Revanth Reddy said the previous BRS govt did nothing during their nearly 10-year rule and failed to fulfil the promises. After the Congress govt came to power in Dec 2023, it was focusing on both development and welfare schemes.
On welfare schemes, Revanth said Telangana was the only state that waived off farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh to farmers.
"Telangana is also the only state that conducted a caste survey, presented it in the assembly, and completed the sub-classification of SCs," he added.
