Plan to increase NCC cadet strength in state to 90,000
Bhubaneswar: National Cadet Corps (NCC) is set for a major expansion in Odisha, with plans to increase cadet strength from 60,000 to 90,000. The decision follows a high-level meeting between NCC director general Lt Gen Gurbir Pal Singh and chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan here on Monday.
The expansion plan includes establishing new NCC branches in central schools, Navodaya schools and state schools.
Three training centres will be set up in Cuttack, Berhampur and Sambalpur, with allocation of 5 acres of land each for Cuttack and Berhampur, and 10 acres for Sambalpur.
In a significant move to enhance aviation training, the govt allocated Rs 1.5 crore for establishing a hangar at Jharsuguda airport to provide flight training to NCC cadets. State govt also committed to providing officers and staff for a new NCC group headquarters in Koraput.
"NCC is a prestigious organisation that plays an unparalleled role in developing youth potential for national service," said Majhi, assuring full govt support for the expansion.TNN
