GHMC cracks down on meat shops for open trash dumping
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has issued 5,277 notices to non-vegetarian establishments for dumping meat waste on roadsides instead of following proper disposal methods.
According to GHMC regulations, all such establishments must hand over their daily waste to an authorised collection agency. However, many continue to leave waste on their premises or discard it in open areas.
Inspections reveal that nearly 90% of the city's 6,000 registered chicken and mutton shops are violating these guidelines. Over 5,000 establishments have come under scrutiny in recent months for improper waste disposal.
GHMC teams have conducted inspections across various zones, identifying serious sanitation hazards. Waste materials such as chicken feathers, bones, and other remains attract stray animals, creating unhygienic conditions in residential areas and posing significant health risks.
As per municipal regulations, non-veg shops must be registered with an authorised waste collection agency, which collects and processes the waste at a designated facility in Chengicherla.
To enforce compliance, GHMC has deployed monitoring teams to track and regulate waste disposal practices in the city.
