Hyderabad: Ram Gopal Varma did not appear before the AP CID for questioning on Monday in connection with a 2019 film controversy. Instead, his lawyer visited the CID office, requesting an eight-week extension citing prior film promotion obligations.
The CID is expected to decide on further action, potentially issuing a fresh notice on Tuesday. The complaint against Varma, filed by Vamsi Krishna Bandaru of Atmakur, relates to alleged objectionable scenes in his film, Kamma Rajyamlo Kadapa Redlu (later released as Amma Rajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu following a High Court intervention). The complainant alleges the original title version on YouTube still contained the disputed content. A case was registered against Varma on November 29, 2024, and he was served notices in Ongole.
