Munambam case: tribunal dismisses two petitions

Published - February 10, 2025 08:10 pm IST - KOZHIKODE

The Waqf Tribunal dismissed two petitions seeking to join as a party in the case over the Munambam land issue. As the hearing commenced at a sitting of the three-member tribunal in Kozhikode on Monday (February 10), the petitions filed by Waqf Samrakshana Vedi and Akhila Kerala Waqf Samrakshana Samithi were dismissed.

The hearing on two other petitions, including one filed by the residents of Munambam to join the case, will be held on Tuesday (February 11).

The arguments are based on an appeal filed by Farook College, Kozhikode, the beneficiary of the reported Waqf deed on the Munambam land, against the Kerala State Waqf Board’s decision to enlist it as Waqf property.

The college management has demanded the tribunal to cancel the Waqf Board’s announcement in 2019 that the land in question at Munambam was a Waqf property, as well as its order to include the said land in the Waqf register.

The college, represented by Advocates K.P. Mayan and V.P. Narayanan, claimed that the Board made a unilateral decision to claim and acquire the land without even conducting a survey, following the M.A. Nissar Commission report on the irregularities in the Kerala State Waqf Board.
