Special officers will be appointed to check sand smuggling.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday directed officials to take measures to supply sand at lower prices to people and supply sand free of cost to beneficiaries of Indiramma houses.

During a review meeting on the mines and minerals department at his residence on Monday, Revanth Reddy ordered officials to inspect sand reaches and take stringent action against those involved in sand smuggling. District collectors and superintendents of police are being entrusted with the responsibility. In Hyderabad, HYDRAA has been assigned the task to curb sand smuggling.

Special officers will be appointed to check sand smuggling.

He also directed officials to set up 360-degree cameras, and solar lights at every sand reach and also set up entry and exit points along with strong fencing at sand stock yards.

Revanth Reddy said he would personally conduct surprise inspections, if necessary.

Steps will be taken to empanel registered lorries for transportation and ensure that sand reaches the consumer within 48 hours of booking. The Chief Minister wanted a system developed to make sure that sand reaches the consumer from the nearest sand reaches.

A special portal will be developed to resolve consumer issues and address the grievances as soon as the problem arises. Steps will be taken to ensure that sand is sold only at a fixed price. A tracking system will also be developed for sand transporting vehicles to curb illegal transportation.

He suggested several changes in the online booking system. Sand booking hours will be made available only during office timings. “Action will be taken against officials who colluded with the illegal transporters. No one will be spared,” he warned.

He asked the officials to hand over responsibilities to the permanent employees in a transparent manner without any place for irregularities.
