The passenger ferry service between Nagapattinam and Kankesanthurai in Sri Lanka is set to resume from February 12. The service had been suspended due to adverse weather conditions.
Operated by Subham Ferry Services, a subsidiary of Subham Group, the service will run six days a week, except Tuesday. Passengers can book tickets through the official website www.sailsubham.com.
Sundararaj Ponnusamy, Chairman and Managing Director of Subham Group, told The Hindu that the new travel packages had been introduced, catering to middle class travellers.
“These include two-night, three-day accommodation options at select destinations. The Ramayana Yatra packages — spanning five nights and six days, three nights and four days, and two nights and three days — will be available by the end of this month,” he said.
The two-way fare has been reduced from ₹9,700 to ₹8,500, making the journey more affordable. While passengers can carry up to 10 kg of baggage for free, excess baggage will be charged. The overall baggage limit has been increased to 70 kg from the earlier 50 kg, with 23 kg allowed at no extra cost.
Onboard facilities have been enhanced. “Toilets and other passenger amenities have been restructured. We have expanded snack options and will offer fresh milk, coffee, tea, and cool drinks,” Mr. Ponnusamy said. Additionally, a duty-free shop will be introduced on the vessel, allowing passengers to purchase goods at discounted rates.
The ferry service, which was launched in August last year, received a positive response from travellers on both sides of the Palk Strait. However, operations were suspended due to monsoon-related disruptions.
