Harry Brook's struggle with bat continues as he was yet again dismissed for a low score thanks to brilliant catching from Shubman Gill. The brilliant catch was taken on the fourth ball of the 29th over bowled by Harshit Rana.
The pacer bowled a off-cutter and Brook went through with the big shot down the ground. However he mistimed the shot and Gill ran full tilt towards the boundary from mid-off. The balls came over his shoulder, but the Indian vice captain kept his eyes on the ball and dived forward to complete a truly stunning catch.
Engalnd in control against India despite losing wickets
England made an aggressive start in the second ODI against India as the host found themselves on back foot early in the innings. England’s openers came out firing. Phil Salt and Ben Duckett made their intentions clear from the outset, racing to an 81-run stand in just 66 balls.
Salt who was dropped on 6 runs by Axar Patel, scored 26 off 29 balls before Varun Chakravarthy making his ODI debut dismissed him. The wicket lifted the spirits of the Indian camp.
Duckett, unfazed, continued his onslaught and brought up a blistering fifty in just 36 balls. His knock of 65 off 56 deliveries kept the pressure on India, but the ever-reliable Ravindra Jadeja had other plans. The left arm spinner got rid of Duckett providing India with much-needed relief.
India hoped to regain control, but Harry Brook and Joe Root had different ideas. The duo played with authority, countering the spinners and building a crucial 66-run partnership. The situation forced Rohit Sharma to bring Harshit Rana back into the attack, a move that proved to be a game-changer.
The move proved to be fruitful as the pacer broke the stand between Brook and Root. With England still in a strong position, their skipper Jos Buttler joined Root in the middle, aiming to capitalize on the solid platform.
