Lucknow: Doctors at Balrampur Hospital successfully performed a complex gynecological surgery on a 45-year-old woman from Gonda who was suffering from a rare condition, bicornuate uterus (duplication of the uterus), which occurs in approximately 1 in 5,000 women, along with multiple fibroid tumors. She was discharged on Saturday.
According to CMS Balrampur, Dr Sanjay Teotia, the patient was admitted on Jan 2 with complaints of abdominal pain and swelling.

Medical examinations confirmed her condition, along with hypertension, hypothyroidism, and hypokalemia.
Dr Samaddar said that the two-hour-long procedure involved the removal of a 30×22 cm, 3 kg tumor, requiring two units of blood transfusion. The removed specimen was sent for pathological analysis. The surgical team also included Dr Shubham Goyal (Resident surgeon), Dr Anjum (Senior resident, anesthesia), and Dr Shifa Javed (Junior resident, anesthesia).
Anesthesia specialist, Dr Piyush Kumar explained that the patient had undergone pituitary gland surgery seven years ago, making the administration of anesthesia particularly challenging. After extensive discussions with anesthesia and neurosurgery experts, it was decided to proceed with the surgery.
Balrampur Hospital director Dr Sushil Prakash commended the team, stating that this successful surgery reflects the doctors' expertise and commitment to quality healthcare.
