Chinta demands probe into Kolleru Lake encroachments

Published - February 09, 2025 12:51 am IST - VIJAYAWADA

Former Union Minister and Congress senior leader Chinta Mohan on Saturday (February 8) urged the Andhra Pradesh government to set up a commission to investigate land encroachments in the Kolleru Lake region.

Speaking at a press conference in Eluru, he emphasised the need to prosecute those responsible for illegal occupations and demanded transparency in land dealings. Dr. Chinta Mohan pointed out the drastic reduction in Kolleru Lake’s area over the years and urged the government to disclose past and present land records.

Referring to allegations surrounding Polavaram project, the Congress veteran said if Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had nothing to hide, he should order a judicial inquiry. He compared Polavaram with Telangana’s Kaleshwaram project and said while Kaleshwaram benefited Telangana’s political leadership, Polavaram had primarily enriched contractors, offering little advantage to the general public.
