In connection with World Wetland Day, students of St. Joseph’s School, Alappuzha participated in a rally organised by the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment-Community Environmental Resource Centre (ATREE-CERC) recently. The rally was held to raise awareness about the crucial role played by wetlands in sustaining planet the earth.

It was flagged off by District Collector Alex Varghese. The rally, on the theme ‘Protect wetlands for our common future’, was held from Alappuzha District Collectorate to Finishing Point.

Demonstrating their environmental consciousness, the students also created value-added products from water hyacinth, an invasive plant species. They showcased their creativity by crafting hand fans from water hyacinth, which were presented to the Collector and people along the route.

The event concluded with a talk by Jojo T.D., project manager, ATREE CERC.
