T'puram: The state higher education council and the state universities will soon start evaluating the syllabus of the four-year degree courses launched this year. Higher education minister R Bindu said a mechanism to share feedback on the courses is also on the anvil.
Bindu stated that universities would launch a portal for review and feedback purposes.The syllabus review aims to ensure the quality of the syllabi and to ascertain the knowledge, skills and interests students should acquire according to each course, she said. Selected courses will be reviewed at the state level under the leadership of the higher education council.
The portal is being launched to gather opinions and suggestions about the university syllabus from students, teachers, and the general public. The feedback and suggestions received on these portals will be considered by the respective study boards. Subsequently, all university study boards will comprehensively review their syllabi and take necessary actions.
The review of major courses at the state level will be conducted by a team under Prof Suresh Das, who was the chairman of the curriculum committee, Bindu said. As part of implementing the four-year degree, significant changes have been proposed in the existing teaching, extracurricular, examination and evaluation methods.
A meeting chaired by the minister also decided to ensure training for teachers in all govt-aided and self-financing colleges in the state. The training programmes will be conducted jointly by the newly established Teaching and Learning Centre of Excellence, the university, and the college education department.
The four-year undergraduate programme (FYUGP) monitoring committee has been tasked with preparing a standard operating procedure (SOP) for implementing interuniversity and college student transfers, N minus one semester and online courses. A study will be conducted at the university level regarding the implementation of AICTE regulations concerning BBA and BCA courses, minister Bindu informed in a statement.
