Pune, February 8, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved the long-awaited road widening project along the Mutha riverbed, from Baba Bhide Bridge to Erandwane via Rajput Vasahat. The initiative aims to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity, especially for two-wheeler commuters traveling between central Pune and the western suburbs.

Key Highlights of the Project:

Addressing Traffic Bottlenecks

The narrow stretch near Shaheed Bhagat Singh Mitra Mandal has long caused congestion due to encroachments, including residential buildings in Ota Vasahat and a government officers’ society. As part of the expansion, portions of these structures are being acquired.

To address delays caused by land acquisition issues, former IAS officer Shekhar Gaikwad facilitated discussions between PMC and the affected residents, leading to a resolution. Boundary adjustments within the government officers’ society and newly built steps for Ota Vasahat residents have ensured smoother execution of the project.

Expected Benefits:

Smoother traffic flow along the Baba Bhide Bridge-Rajput Settlement route
Reduced congestion near Rajput Vasahat and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Mitra Mandal
Enhanced connectivity between central Pune, Karvenagar, Kothrud, Warje, and Sinhagad Road
Safer commute for two-wheeler riders and local residents
