Itanagar: The anti-drug squad (ADS) of police in East Siang district arrested two drug peddlers and seized 2.317kg of narcotic substances from them in a well-coordinated operation.
The effort is part of the police's ongoing mission to combat the drug menace and achieve a drug-free district. Acting on credible intelligence input about a habitual drug user in the 2-Mile area in Pasighat who regularly sourced ganja and heroin from Silapathar, the East Siang police launched an operation on Friday.

The ADS quickly mobilised a team led by Pasighat police station officer-in-charge inspector Ige Lollen. The team also included sub-inspector K Tangha, assistant sub-inspector R Lowang, sub-inspector (SG) A K Deka, constables T Ragyor and O Modi.
The operation was supervised by deputy superintendent of police Ayup Boko, under the overall guidance of East Siang superintendent of police (SP) Pankaj Lamba, an official statement said on Saturday.
The first suspect, Dhananjey Saha, a driver, was apprehended at his home. During interrogation, Saha revealed that he procured ganja from a woman in Silapathar and agreed to assist the police in locating her.
A controlled delivery operation, conducted with the assistance of Assam's Dhemaji police, led to the arrest of Junmoni Das near the rail gate in Silapathar. A subsequent search of her home resulted in the recovery of 2.317kg of suspected ganja, a digital weighing machine and a smartphone.
A case has been registered at Pasighat police station under the NDPS Act.
East Siang police have reiterated their commitment to fighting the drug menace and urged citizens to report any drug-related activities to help create a drug-free district.
