The State Budget has earmarked an amount of ₹5 crore to the Kerala Start-up Mission for ‘New Innings,’ a project to encourage senior citizens to launch novel enterprises or industries utilising their financial capacity and experience. The project is expected to enable senior citizens to become socially active and participate in economic activities.
The Budget, presented recently, earmarks ₹5 crore for the senior citizen home scheme that provides cottages to the elderly.
Parks in the State will be converted into multi-generation ones by installing open-air elderly friendly exercise equipment to re-invigorate them. An amount of ₹5 crore has been allocated for the novel scheme.
A significant allocation of ₹50 crore is for the Aswasakiranam’ scheme that provides a monthly assistance to a family member looking after bed-ridden patients at home.
The allocation for the ‘Sayamprabha’ scheme is ₹14 crore, an increase of ₹7.5 crore from the allocation last year.
The Budget sets aside ₹8 crore for the Barrier Free Kerala scheme. Mazhavillu, an umbrella scheme for transgenders, gets ₹5.5 crore.
An amount of ₹1 crore has been earmarked for the ‘Transit Home’ programme that provides temporary accommodation to foreigners who have entered the country illegally and those who are waiting to return to home, after completing their sentence.
The provision for the National Institute of Physical Medical and Rehabilitation has been enhanced to ₹18 crore.
Other allocations include ₹17 crore for relief measures to endosulfan victims, ₹27.5 crore for Vayomithram project, ₹21 crore for ‘Anuyatra’ scheme for the differently abled, ₹20 crore for the Snehapoorvam scheme that provides financial assistance to orphaned children or those with single parents children and those having HIV/AIDS, ₹16 crore for various schemes implemented by Kerala State Differently abled Welfare Corporation Ltd., ₹22 crore for various activities of the National Institute of Speech and Hearing, ₹6 crore for the Samashwasam scheme that provides financial assistance to kidney patients, those who have undergone kidney/liver transplants, sickle cell anaemia patients, and those affected with conditions such as haemophilia and related diseases, and ₹3.8 crore for ‘Mittayi,’ the social support scheme implemented for children with Type 1 diabetes,
An amount of ₹706.71 crore is earmarked for the social security and welfare sector, an increase of ₹80.98 crore from the allocation last year.
