IT Labour Union Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has alleged that Infosys has laid off around 700 campus recruits, who were part of the 2,000 onboarded in October 2024. However, Infosys debunked these claims stating that freshers who fail to clear assessments will not be allowed to continue working with the organisation. The company clarified that less than 350 people were among those who failed to qualify.
According to Harpreet Singh Saluja, the President of NITES, Infosys summoned these employees today to meeting rooms at its Mysore campus, where they were coerced into signing “mutual separation” letters under duress.
He continued, “The complaints received by NITES say that the company has deployed bouncers and security personnel to intimidate employees, ensuring they cannot carry mobile phones and are left with no way to document the incident or seek help. When employees questioned the rationale behind this mass layoff, Infosys HR officials coldly responded the company had never asked them to wait for two years, a response demonstrating a complete lack of empathy for their struggles.”
NITES also claimed that these employees were given an ultimatum to leave the premises by today evening, without any prior notice, severance package, or support.
“Such actions violate basic principles of ethical employment and contravene Indian labour laws, including the Industrial Disputes Act, of 1947. Given the gravity of the situation, NITES is filing an official complaint with the Ministry of Labour & Employment, demanding immediate intervention, and strict action against Infosys. This blatant corporate exploitation cannot be allowed to continue, and we urge the government to take swift action to uphold the rights and dignity of Indian IT workers,” Saluja shared.
In a statement, it said, “We have a rigorous hiring process where all freshers, after undergoing extensive foundational training at our Mysuru campus, are expected to clear internal assessments. All freshers get three attempts to clear the assessment, failing which they will not be able to continue with the organisation, as is also mentioned in their contract. This process has been in existence for over two decades and ensures a high quality of talent availability for our clients.”
