Logs stolen from General Hospital premises
Thiruvananthapuram: Cantonment police began a probe on Thursday following the theft of logs worth lakhs of rupees from the General Hospital premises.
The logs belonged to the decades-old trees that were felled in 2022, after they were found to pose a threat to the safety of the hospital building. As many as 20 logs, with thicknesses of two to four feet and lengths over 10 feet, were found missing from the compound on Thursday. The woods belonged to mango trees and rain trees and were kept behind the canteen and wards nine and 10 of the hospital. "We do not know how and when they were stolen. A complaint was given to the police for tracing the accused," said Dr Preethi James, superintendent of the hospital.
The police have registered a case under Section 303 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for theft and began a probe.
"There are CCTV cameras inside the hospital compound, but none of them cover the spots where the woods were kept. However, the visuals would definitely help find the people who shifted the logs from there. The hospital authorities are not certain when the theft took place, as it could be between Oct 2022 and 2025. Checking the visuals throughout this period is a Herculean task, and we may have to get the help of some private experts," said police.
Police believe that the accused may have received the support of someone from the hospital.
