Woman, lover held for husband’s murder in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: A 32-year-old woman and her lover were arrested by Faridabad crime branch officials on Thursday for the murder of her husband. After committing the crime, they dumped the body in a drain at Sector-56 on Feb 3.
The accused were identified as Ranjita, 32, and Vijay Narayana, 33. During interrogation, Ranjita said that her husband, Rakesh, used to frequently assault her in a drunken state and that is why she decided to kill him with Vijay's help, who gave the victim sedative-laced liquor and strangled him.
Ranjita and Rakesh, 35, a labourer and native of Uttar Pradesh, lived in Sector 23's Sanjay Colony. On the evening of Jan 31, Rakesh left home after telling his wife that he was going to collect money from someone. He did not return but it was only on Feb 2, after Rakesh's brother Santosh came to know that he was missing, that a case was lodged at Mujesar police station under Section 127 (6) (wrongful confinement in secret) of BNS.
"Ranjita did not inform us that Rakesh was missing. She also knew where his body could be. She was involved in his murder," Santosh said after his brother's body was found. Based on the postmortem report and Santosh's complaint, police arrested the duo and put them in remand.
During interrogation, Vijay Narayan confessed to the police that he was in a relationship with Ranjita for the past few months.
"Vijay said Rakesh used to assault his wife frequently after consuming alcohol, which is why Ranjita hatched a plan with him to kill Rakesh. On Jan 31, Vijay made Rakesh consume alcohol laced with some intoxicants at an isolated place in Sector-56. After Rakesh fell unconscious, Vijay strangled him with a muffler and dumped his body in a nearby sewer," Faridabad police spokesperson Yashpal said.
