Members of Parliament belonging to the DMK and its alliance partners from Tamil Nadu on Friday (February 7, 2025) staged a demonstration in the Parliament premises condemning the recurring incidents of mid-sea arrests of fishermen from Tamil Nadu coast by the Sri Lankan Navy and urging the Union government to find permanent solution for the issue.

In a social media post, DMK Parliamentary party leader Kanimozhi, said Tamil Nadu fishermen continue to be arrested and their boats were seized by the Sri Lankan Navy, making this a serious and ongoing concern. She also raised the issue during the Zero Hour in the Parliament and said fishermen from Tamil Nadu are being harassed and arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy, regularly. Over 97 fishermen had been arrested and lodged in prisons in Sri Lanka and nearly 210 fishing boats were nationalised by the Sri Lankan government posing a serious threat to the livelihood of the fishermen.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had repeatedly insisted the Centre to hold talks with the Sri Lankan government to find a permanent solution, she said urged the Union Government to take immediate steps to bring back the arrested fishermen.
