Aizawl: Deputy commissioner of Assam border Kolasib Robert C. Lalhmangaiha, accompanied by district SP David H Lalthangliana and Cachar DC Mindal Yadav, accompanied by district SP N Mahato on Thursday have agreed to ensure that no trouble arises on both sides of the border.
The officials of both the border districts, who held a meeting at Cachar DC's conference hall at Silchar, said the joint statement issued in the minister-level talks on border dispute held in Aizawl on Aug 9 last year should be maintained. It was decided that no trouble should arise and people living in both sides of the border should live peacefully.
Minister level meeting last year also agreed that talks should be held frequently at the level of DCs and SPs of border districts of both the states to have better understanding and coordination between the two states.
Officials of the two districts also discussed several issues, including cooperation between the districts, especially in view of the upcoming village councils in Mizoram to be held on Feb 12. Kolasib DC Lalhmangaiha appealed to his Cachar district counterpart Yadav to work together in tandem in maintaining law and order along the border areas during polling.
He also invited his Cachar counterpart to attend the coming ‘Chapchar Kut' celebrations at Kolasib town on March 7. It was also agreed in the meeting at Kolasib town to deliberate on the proposed construction of four-lane National Highway-306 between Assam and Mizoram by the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited.
