AINRC to enter poll fray in Tamil Nadu during 2026 Assembly election

Updated - February 07, 2025 09:10 pm IST - PUDUCHERRY

The All India N R Congress (AINRC) has decided to field its candidates from Tamil Nadu also in the 2026 Assembly election, Puducherry Chief Minister and party founder leader N. Rangasamy said here on Friday.

“People of Tamil Nadu want our party to enter the poll fray in that State. As per people’s wishes, we will be contesting the Assembly election in Tamil Nadu with the promise to implement the vision of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Kamaraj,” he said while addressing workers on AINRC’s foundation day at the party office on ECR.

Without elaborating further on AINRC’s planned foray into Tamil Nadu, the Chief Minister said the party was gearing up for next year’s Assembly election.

“Out of the 30 Assembly constituencies in Puducherry, we have appointed key functionaries in 11 Assembly segments. Organisational posts in the remaining constituencies will be filled in the coming weeks,” he said.

The party, he said, was confident of getting a second term in Puducherry as “most of the electoral promises have been fulfilled in the last four years”.

“Whether it is on the job front or implementation of welfare schemes, we have performed well. Several schemes, including distribution of free rice, that were discontinued during the previous Congress regime were relaunched after the party came to power in 2021,” he said.

Minister for Public Works K. Lakshminarayanan, Minister for Agriculture C. Djeacoumar, legislators, AINRC vice-president V. Sabapathy alias Kothandaraman and party secretary N. S. J. Jayabal were among those who attended the foundation day function.
