Kanpur: Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) employee Shubham Malviya, 26, who is accused of sexually exploiting his female colleague, was arrested by the police on Tuesday night from Kalyanpur area of the city.
The victim accused Shubham of sexually assaulting her for about a year under the pretense of marriage. She filed an FIR at the Kalyanpur police station. The accused went into hiding after the victim's statement was recorded before a magistrate.
After that the police conducted raids at his rented flat in Kalyanpur, as well as at his homes and relatives' residences in Indore and Agra. Under pressure, the accused's family contacted DCP West through a lawyer on Tuesday and shared his location. Subsequently, the police arrested him near Eldeco late at night.
Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Kalyanpur, Abhishek Pandey, said that Shubham admitted to knowing the victim and was sent to jail.
