Surat: One person died and 25 were injured after a dumper hit a bus carrying 40 workers on Thursday morning. The accident occurred near L&T Gate No. 2 on the Hazira highway when the bus was taking the workers to the AMNS plant. The workers were rushed to New Civil Hospital. Hazira police booked the dumper driver, Shankar Ramvishwas Kachher, for rash and negligent driving endangering human lives.
According to the complaint filed by Dhiraj Joshi, supervisor of Neo Structo Construction Pvt. Ltd, they have a plant construction contract with AMNS in Hazira since 2020. They allotted 700 employees for this project. Every day, the company's eight buses would carry the workers to the plant while some workers would go there on their own. The buses would leave Mora Gaam at 7.30am to go to the plant.
On Thursday morning, one of their buses was hit by a dumper, which was coming from Hazira toward Mora Circle and was filled with coal. The dumper was at such a high speed that the bus overturned.
A 51-year-old worker, Suryadev Bhuiyan, died on the spot, while 25 seriously injured people were taken to New Civil Hospital and other hospitals. The driver of the dumper was also injured in the accident. Hazira police booked the driver and started further investigation.
The company issued a statement demanding restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles during peak office and factory hours when workers are travelling.
