Rajkot: An alleged case of corporal punishment has come to light in Thangadh town of Surendranagar district, where a 12-year-old student has accused his school principal of hitting him with a steel pipe.
The boy's mother, 36, has lodged a complaint against the principal.
The mother stated that her son was unusually silent and upset when he returned from the school at 5pm on Wednesday. On being asked he began crying and said that the principal had hit him with a steel pipe despite there being no apparent reason for it.
The boy has suffered injuries to his back, neck and face. He is being treated at a govt hospital.
Police began an investigation after lodging a case under Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (causing hurt) and Section 75 the Juvenile Justice Act which deals with cruelty to children.
