Youth blackmailed by contact from gay dating app
Rajkot: A 19-year-old student was extorted out of Rs 65,000 and a phone by a man he met on a gay dating app who blackmailed him, threatening to circulate a nude video of the victim.
The victim, a college student who also works in a salon, lodged a complaint against a Jamnagar man at Rajkot Taluka police station on Thursday.
According to the victim's complaint, he had interacted with the accused man through a gay dating app two days ago and they had started interacting through messages.
On Tuesday, the accused told the victim he had arrived in Rajkot and was staying at a hotel near Nana Mauva Road. He invited the victim to meet him there at 5pm.
After they met at the hotel, the accused introduced himself and claimed to be a resident of Jamnagar. After talking for a while they both went to the bathroom for a shower. While the victim was in the bathroom, the accused secretly recorded a video of him.
When the victim came out of the bathroom, the accused demanded his phone. He showed the video to the victim and threatened to circulate it on social media if he did not transfer money to him. The accused demanded to know the balance in the victim's bank account. The victim had around Rs 70,000 in two accounts, of which he was forced to transfer Rs 65,000 to the accused.
The accused also took the victim to a shop at Astron Chowk, where he forced him to buy a phone worth Rs 36,800 using his credit card.
The accused then deleted the dating app from the victim's phone and threatened to release the video if he reported the incident.
