Only 541 fans use Aapli Bus to reach Jamtha
Nagpur: Despite 1.2 lakh passengers commuting via Aapli Bus on the match day (till 7 pm), only 541 fans opted for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) city bus service to reach the ODI venue at Jamtha.
The NMC transport department had deployed 19 buses, including nine from PMI, five from Ocletra's Wadi depot, and five from Tata, to manage the expected crowd. Additionally, a backup plan was prepared, anticipating higher demand. However, the turnout remained significantly lower than expected, indicating that most cricket fans preferred private transport or metro services over city buses, said a senior official from NMC's transport department.
To ease travel, Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) too had hired 50 Aapli bus fleet. Out of which 20 buses were arranged for shuttle services from a separate parking area, while 15 buses provided free services from the airport metro station and another 15 from Khapri metro station.
Officials may need to re-evaluate strategies to increase public transport usage for future sporting events, including better awareness campaigns and direct routes to stadiums.
