Man arrested for framing woman’s husband in revenge plot over rejected marriage proposal
Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested here on Thursday after trying to implicate a woman's husband in a crime to avenge her refusal to his marriage proposal. The accused was identified as Mitu Parida (34) from Chandanpur area in Puri district.
Parida, employed at a private firm here, established contact with the woman through social media six years ago. Their friendship developed, leading to regular telephone conversations, police sources said. Police reports indicate that when Parida proposed marriage last year, she declined, explaining that she treated him solely as a friend and her family has already arranged her marriage. Although he initially he argued with her, the matter was resolved when Parida agreed to stop pursuing the issue.
Following her marriage last year, they maintained telephone contact. When she discussed her financial difficulties with Parida, he offered to assist by securing a loan. "She provided her husband's photograph, Aadhaar card, and driving licence to Parida for obtaining a Rs 1 lakh loan in her husband's name. However, Parida neither facilitated the loan nor responded to subsequent communications," said an officer of Dhauli police station.
On Jan 28, upon learning about an unidentified woman's decomposed body discovered near the Daya riverbank, Parida visited the location. While locals gathered around, he stealthily placed the man's photo and Aadhaar card near the corpse before police arrived. Police discovered these documents during their investigation and summoned the man for interrogation. The man, who is a shopkeeper, complied with the police notice and was bewildered by his alleged connection to the deceased woman. During this distressing period of police questioning, his wife recalled sharing those documents with Parida for a loan.
"We brought Parida for questioning. He confessed to hatching the conspiracy to frame the man to settle scores with his wife," the police officer said, dismissing the man's link with the body, whose identity has not been ascertained so far.
