Varanasi: In view of the massive crowd surge in Varanasi and adjoining districts due to the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh, the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth postponed all semester examinations of the university and its 228 affiliated colleges.
In an officials statement, MGKV's assistant registrar (examinations) Anand Kumar Maurya said that due to heavy crowd in Varanasi district, the examinations were postponed by the orders of vice chancellor prof Anand Kumar Tyagi till Feb 15. Examination Controller Deepti Mishra said a new schedule of exams will be announced soon.
The university has 228 affiliated colleges across five districts—Varanasi, Sonbhadra, Chandauli, Mirzapur, and Bhadohi, where over two lakh students are scheduled to appear for undergraduate and postgraduate semester exams. Initially, the university postponed the exams scheduled between Jan 31 and Feb 5.
However, as the heavy influx of pilgrims continued, the MGKV administration decided to revise the schedule. The university and affiliated colleges were set to conduct BA, BSc, and BCom semester exams by Feb 28, with a schedule already issued. PG third and fifth semester exams were scheduled to begin on Feb 6.
The mid-term exam for the social work major (NEP) in the first semester of the 2024-25 session at the Social Work Department, MGKV, will take place on Feb 17. Department Head Prof Mahendra Mohan Verma said the exam will be held at Prof Rajaram Shastri Auditorium, and all students are required to attend.
