Pune – As the Pune Metro network continues to expand, authorities are focusing on enhancing accessibility for more commuters while ensuring efficient future transportation planning. In a recent meeting with Pune Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar, key proposals for metro expansion and traffic management were discussed. Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale has been directed to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed developments.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been instructed to prepare a DPR for extending the metro from Kharadi to Pune International Airport. This route will be integrated into the Khadakwasla–Swargate–Hadapsar–Kharadi metro corridor, creating a seamless connection from Khadakwasla to Pune Airport.
Kharadi, a rapidly growing commercial and residential hub, has been identified as an ideal location for an Interchangeable and Multimodal Transport Hub. This development will offer seamless connectivity from various metro corridors to the airport, benefiting passengers from multiple routes, including:
Given its strategic location, Kharadi’s development as a transport hub will significantly enhance Pune’s metro connectivity.
With Pune’s growing population and increasing traffic congestion, authorities have proposed a new metro corridor from Katraj to Hinjawadi. This extension will support urban expansion, improve public transport efficiency, and create a circular metro network linking Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
To tackle severe traffic congestion on the Vanaz to Chandani Chowk corridor, officials have suggested constructing a double-decker flyover. Inspired by the successful Nal Stop flyover, this structure will help decongest traffic and ensure smoother movement along the metro route.
These strategic metro expansions and infrastructure developments aim to create a robust and future-ready public transport system in Pune, ensuring seamless connectivity and reduced traffic congestion across the city.
