Ankara: An Asian country is rising not only as a competitor to the India’s defense exports but also a dangerous for Indian internal security as the country is supplying critical dangerous weapons to India’s neighbours. According to a recent report released by SIPRI, Turkey led by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has greatly benefited from the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine in the year 2024. As a consequence of the ongoing war in Ukraine, the country’s arms exports have increased significantly.
Apart from this, India’s neighbour Bangladesh also has also made a big defense deal with Turkey last year, which had given a major boost to the defence industry of Turkey.
For those unversed, Turkey is expanding its defense industry in South Asia with its aggressive intent at arming India’s neighbouring countries like Pakistan and China.
As per media reports, Turkey has sold total weapons and defense equipment worth more than US $ 7 billion in the year 2024, which are more than 29 percent of weapons. as compared to the year 2023. Moreover, the Asian NATO member country aims to increase arms exports to US $ 10 billion in the next 2 years, which might be a cause of concern for India.
Turkey’s National Intelligence Organisation has “neutralized” a key figure of the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in northern Syria, the semi-official Anadolu Agency reported Wednesday.
Shiraz Omer, code-named Sozdar Afrin, was killed in a pinpoint operation on the Rumailan-Malikiyah road, Anadolu quoted anonymous Turkish security sources as saying, without specifying the time of the operation.
Omer, allegedly a high-ranking official in the financial network of the group, had reportedly been closely monitored by Turkish intelligence. Also on Wednesday, the Turkish Defence Ministry said 14 YPG militants were “neutralized” in the Operation Peace Spring region of the Turkish military in northern Syria, Xinhua news agency reported.
