Visakhapatnam: A potentially dangerous incident was averted at King George Hospital (KGH) when a known rowdy sheeter and former employee attempted to sabotage the oxygen supply in the hospital’s neonatal care unit.
The incident occurred on January 31 when Raju, allegedly under the influence of cannabis tried to damage the oxygen plant pipes and threatened hospital staff with a knife when they intervened.
According to KGH Superintendent Dr. Sivananda, the accused had previously been employed as a contract worker at the hospital but was terminated due to his involvement in anti-social activities and reporting to work under the influence of alcohol. “This wasn’t his first attempt to sabotage the oxygen plant. Despite previous complaints to the local police, he had only received warnings.”
Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha announced that immediate action had been taken, with Raju and two accomplices now in police custody. “We are conducting a comprehensive security review of KGH,” she said. She also confirmed that orders had been issued for the installation of CCTV cameras in all government and private hospitals across the state to prevent such incidents in the future.
The One Town Police have registered a case against the accused. The Home Minister also emphasized that authorities are strengthening surveillance measures and closely monitoring known rowdy sheeters in the area.
