Kanpur: Mayor Pramila Pandey on Wednesday visited Jankipuram khurd and inspected the historic pond following complaints about land sharks illegally occupying and selling plots.
Incensed over encroachments, the mayor said that about 4 bigha of pond land had disappeared and unauthorised structures erected over the pond area, with several under construction. She promptly contacted the vice -chairman of Kanpur Development Authority and briefed him about the pond's situation.
The mayor criticised KDA officials' negligence while land sharks operated freely, having sold virtually all the pond land. The KDA vice-chairman asked his officials to submit a comprehensive on-site report within five days. Later, the mayor conducted her ‘Mayor at your ward' programme in ward No. 19 Bara Sirohit, addressing local residents' grievances who complained that drainage was their primary concern, citing inadequate drainage systems causing domestic effluent accumulation. During rainfall, the entire vicinity transformed into a waterlogged area.
The mayor instructed the general manager of the Jal kal department to solve the drainage issues. The redressal camp received 31 complaints, with 7 resolved immediately. She then headed an anti-encroachment drive from Moti Jheel Metro station to Chat crossing, Kamal Crossing, Little Farm School, Gastro-Liver Hospital and Swaroop Nagar police station. The team cleared temporary drain encroachments .
In the afternoon, the mayor held a meeting with revenue officials to review tax collection across various zones. The officials informed her that around 80 percent tax has been realised so far.tnn
