New Rayagada division to have 680km of rly lines
Bhubaneswar: The newly-created Rayagada division under East Coast Railway (ECoR) will have around 680 km of railway lines, according to a recent Railway Board letter.
Waltair railway division will be retained in a truncated form and renamed as Visakhapatnam division. Waltair division, which was part of ECoR until the South Coast Railway (SCoR) was formed, will be divided into two parts.
One part of Waltair division, comprising the sections between stations Palasa-Visakhapatnam-Duvvada, Kuneru-Vizianagaram, Naupada Junction-Paralakhemundi, Bobbili Junction-Salur, Simhanchalam North-Duvvada Bypass, Vadalapudi-Duvvada, and Visakhapatnam Steel Plant-Jaggayapalem (around 410 km), will be retained as Waltair division under the new SCoR. It will be renamed as Visakhapatnam division.
The other part of Waltair division, comprising approximately the sections between stations Kottavalasa-Bacheli/Kirandul, Kuneru-Theruvali Junction, Singapur Road-Koraput Junction, and Paralakhemundi-Gunupur (around 680 km), will be converted into a new division with headquarters at Rayagada under the ECoR. As per the earlier Cabinet decisions taken on Feb 28, 2019, SCoR would have received Vijayawada (re-organised), Guntur, and Guntakal. However, the revised jurisdiction is Visakhapatnam (truncated Waltair), Vijayawada, Guntur, and Guntakal.
ECoR will have Khurda Road, Sambalpur and Rayagada (new division). "The exact territorial jurisdiction will be decided after preparation of a revised detailed project report (DPR), which will take into account the above changes," stated the letter. Earlier, railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the Odisha part of Waltair division will remain in ECoR.
