Kanpur: The body of a retired army personnel was recovered from a guava orchard in Unnao district on Wednesday morning. An autopsy confirmed chest injuries from a heavy object impact and broken ribs.
The deceased, who was watching over a guava plantation in Majhra village, perished in questionable conditions, with his body discovered beneath a tree.
The autopsy findings indicated fractured ribs, suggesting either a heavy weapon assault or an animal attack.
Shivram (55), who hailed from Barabanki, concluded his army service and purchased six acres of land in Achalganj's Majhra village for guava cultivation three years ago. He got a home constructed in the same village.
His son Saurabh, who studies in Kanpur with sister Swati, discovered his father was absent after returning home after his coaching classes on Tuesday evening. He then started looking for Shivram, and found his body under a tree.
A mobile phone was also recovered from his trouser pocket.
Saurabh revealed that his father had recently engaged in a dispute with some villagers, and accused four of them of Shivram's murder.
Station house officer (SHO) Rajeshwar Tripathi said further action will be taken based on probe findings and autopsy report.
