Sold my beloved Audi Q3 to a friend after 3 years of ownership

I had no reason to sell the SUV. It was practical, comfortable and reliable. But then, something happened.

It's now I loved Lucy!

My office shifted to Mahadevpura. It was either a one-hour commute each way or a 10-minute drive to the Metro station. I was a little concerned about the diesel subjected to multiple cold starts.

I had no reason to sell. It was practical, comfortable and reliable. But then something happened - A windfall

I started perusing online car ads and fantasizing and the following happened:

  • Heart - So much fun to be had, no loans, daughter off the payroll - time to enjoy life
  • Head - The Q3 resale value was pretty good.

It was time to be impractical and fly YOLO. I will narrate that journey at a later date.

There is a saying - planets align at the right time and so does one's head.

  • A friend of mine was looking for a Q3. Finding a good one was a challenge. I found a good one from a known source but they wanted the moon. I did not pursue it as my friend was not in a hurry and I found a future hassle-free way to move it on!
  • All the fun stuff was overpriced and under-maintained - I decided to increase my budget slightly and a clear shortlist emerged and I put the word out.

Within a week, I acted fast, found and put a deposit on my next car. The dealer looked at my Q3 and tried their best to buy it, in terms of effort and not in terms of target price.

Selling to a friend is risky. The fact that the dealer badly wanted it, meant that I could sell to my friend with a conscience. I really wanted him to make sure that he bought the car without remorse. I insisted on him taking it for a day but he came back smiling. I encouraged him to show it to a mechanic but he decided to take my word although he had a lot of questions. As for the price, I sent him data on the asking prices and set a realistic price

SOLD

After 3 years, I sold it for 2 lakhs less than I had bought it. However, I had spent money a year ago on a suspension rebuild, cambelt change and DSG service. This was offset by the fact that my next car might not require major repair costs in the near future.

After we agreed on the sale, the car was sent for a general checkup. I then sorted the tyre out and then stored her for a week until the new owner was able to take delivery.

Lucy left us last week. My wife felt this was the best and most comfortable car ever owned.
