Madikeri: Wild elephants continue to damage plantation crops in Ghattadalla village under Badaga Banangala gram panchayat.
They trampled and damaged an iron gate installed at the entry point to the coffee plantation of MC Muthanna and damaged arecanut trees and coffee plants.
Wild elephants were continuously roaming around the coffee plantation for the past week. Muthanna said the workers, are reluctant to go to work in the coffee plantation. The coffee harvesting work is underway, and the workers are scared. The coffee planters complained to foresters that the harvesting work is being delayed.
The villagers demanded that the forest officials pay attention to this issue and formulate a permanent plan to prevent the attack of wild elephants, and that the department provide appropriate compensation to the farmers who suffered losses.
