‘Couple’ jumps before moving train in Chandauli
Varanasi: A boy and a girl, both aged around 19, ended their lives by jumping in front of Sealdah Jallianwala Bagh Express when the train was passing through platform no. 4 of Saiyyedraja railway station in PDDU railway division of Chandauli district on Monday.
CO GRP (Varanasi) Kunwar Prabhat Singh said that both died on the spot. With the help of an Aadhaar card found with the deceased girl she was identified as Bittu Kumari (19) of Chatem area under Saiyadraja police station area. Efforts were continuing to ascertain the identity of the boy, he said. The mutilated bodies were sent for postmortem examination, he added.
Eyewitnesses told the police that the boy and girl were sitting together under a tree on platform number four. As the train reached the platform, they both jumped in front of the train.
Before people present at the station could stop them they were run over by the train. Station Master Virendra Kumar immediately alerted GRP and RPF.
