Telangana Assembly urges Centre to conduct nationwide caste census

Published - February 04, 2025 09:41 pm IST - HYDERABAD

The Telangana Assembly unanimously passed a resolution urging the Central government to emulate the State’s comprehensive household survey to assess socio-economic conditions and address the growing inequalities among various sections of society.

The survey, covering aspects such as caste, education, employment, and economic status, was described as a historic initiative by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who moved the resolution after an extensive debate on Tuesday. He emphasised that the data gathered would be instrumental in shaping policies aimed at the welfare and development of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, and other marginalised communities.

The Chief Minister reiterated the State’s commitment to taking up affirmative actions to foster equitable growth by implementing targeted measures to uplift disadvantaged groups, ensuring their diverse needs are met effectively.
