Kanpur: Three men were charred to death after a collision between two dumpers resulted in a massive fire on the Kanpur-Sagar National Highway in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district on Monday night. Two others sustained severe burns and were admitted to Maudaha community health centre.
The accident led to several-kilometre-long traffic jams on both sides of the highway. Police said one dumper, loaded with grit, was travelling from Mahoba to Kanpur and another empty dumper was en route to Kabrai. The impact of the crash was so severe that both vehicles caught fire instantly, leaving the driver and helpers trapped inside.
The deceased were identified as driver Pankaj Gautam, 30, his brother-in-law Kapil, and helper of another dumper Kunwar Rajput, 22.
The injured were identified as other dumper's driver Vikas Yadav, 25, and Pankaj's helper Anil, 25.
Hamirpur SP Deeksha Sharma said the condition of Anil and Vikas is critical.
