Patna: JD(U)'s Lok Sabha member from Sheohar, Lovely Anand, on Tuesday demanded Bharat Ratna—India's highest civilian award—for PM
Narendra Modi and CM
Nitish Kumar for their contributions to governance and development.
Earlier too, many NDA leaders, including JD(U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha and senior BJP leader and Union minister Giriraj Singh, batted for Bharat Ratna to the state's longest serving CM.
Participating in a debate on the ‘motion of thanks' to the President's address in the Lok Sabha, Lovely praised the leadership of Modi and Nitish, and claimed that their works have brought a turnaround in the country and Bihar, respectively. "The mantra of ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka prayas' is being fully realised under their leadership," she said.
Recalling the law and order situation in Bihar under former CM Lalu Prasad's regime, Lovely, who is wife of former MP Anand Mohan, claimed people feared for their safety during his rule.
"Under Lalu Ji's rule, there was no guarantee that if a person left home in the morning, he/she will return safely by the evening. But Nitish Kumar has changed this," said Lovely, who dumped the RJD just months before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls to join the JD(U).
To justify her demand to confer Bharat Ratna to Modi, the Sheohar MP drew a parallel with history. "The first PM Jawaharlal Nehru was conferred the Bharat Ratna. But Modi Ji has done so much work. What was the state of the country before Modi Ji took charge?" she questioned.
The JD(U) is an ally of the NDA, at the Centre, in Bihar and few other states.
