Ara: A cache of arms and ammunition was recovered on Tuesday by police under the Udwantnagar police station in Bhojpur district. Two suspected arms smugglers were also arrested.
"Acting on a tip-off, a special police team led by SHO of Udwantnagar police station, Ram Kalyan Yadav, and other armed police personnel conducted a raid at Belaur ka Tola and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition concealed in a "dalaan" (an outdoor building used for both sleeping and storing grain in villages). Two suspected arms smugglers were also arrested from their hideouts in the village," ASP-cum-sadar SDPO Parichay Kumar said.
The police seized 37 live cartridges, 11 empty cartridges, three country-made firearms, a pistol and two magazines from the possession of the two arrested suspects.
"Two suspected arms suppliers, Ranjay Kumar and Nitish Kumar, were arrested in the raid at Belaur ka Tola. Both Ranjay and Nitish have criminal antecedents. The police are investigating to ascertain how many cases have been lodged against them at different police stations in the district," Udwantnagar SHO Ram Kalyan Yadav said.
The ASP added, "The arrested criminals are being interrogated to determine the source of their weapons and to whom they intended to supply the stockpile."
